This irrometer is for use in either field or container applications. Simply install in soil for continuous readings of how much water is being taken in by plants. This is done by use of the tensiometer principle as water is drawn from the soil by the roots a partial vacuum is created and pressure is recorded on the gauge. The sealed water-filled tube has a special vacuum gauge and a porous tip, which is effected by a partial vacuum caused by the roots taking in water. A low reading indicates waterlogged soil that has inadequate root aeration, a medium reading indicates the need to start irrigation and a high reading indicates low moisture content and means plants aren't growing at their maximum.
