Sodium Absorption Ratio Test Kit Range > 0.0 meq/L (100 tests)
Sodium absorption ratio (SAR) along with pH are used to characterize salt-affected areas. These detrimental effects of high sodium concentrations can be mitigated by the distribution of gypsum directly on to the soil. This test kit determines Sodium Hazard in irrigation water by the calculation of the SAR in relation to Sodium, Calcium and Magnesium concentrations. This kit also features a DiST 4 Conductivity Tester to quickly determine the conductivity of irrigation water. The kit's manual also includes practical solutions to common soil problems. Sodium should be closely monitored and regulated due to its toxic effects to soil and crops. When you encounter high sodium concentrations you find hard soil that is resistant to water penetration due to the dispersion of the soil's colloidal particles. The build-up of osmotic pressure in soil, due to high sodium concentration, is characterized by poor tilth and hindered water absorption by plant roots.
